HEAVENLY HARMONY

Updater (look on your install CD to determine if you need this update. If you see v1.03 on your CD, you do not need to install the update.)

Updater 1.0.3 download (4 MB)

Updater 1.0.3 fixes several reported issues indicated below. Simply download the link above and install the patch over your existing Heavenly Harmony installation. (do not uninstall your original installation)

> Z-sorting errors on certain ATI video card/driver combinations
> Some Windows Vista systems would run in software mode only. (3D Hardware support enabled)
> Tune -A- Tuna script error
> Intermittent flashing lights while playing Pitch -N- Pass
> Intermittent visibility on some music credits

Windows Vista

> The game crashes when I try to run the game after installation.

The game will not run if the installation is not done with administrator privileges. This is pointed out in the game documentation on the game disk.

To fix this problem, you must uninstall Heavenly Harmony. Make certain your user account is either administrator or has been given administrator privilege. Now install Heavenly Harmony and run the game.

> I get a black screen when I first run the game that says "Attention, the game will run in software mode..."

This is an issue with Microsoft and their "backward compatibility" with previous versions of Direct X. Heavenly Harmony attempts to install a fix for this during game installation. If your security is set to high, then it will not allow the install and you must do it manually.

Install the patch above.

Windows XP/2000

> I get a black screen when I first run the game that says "Attention, the game will run in software mode..."

1) Check the system requirements and make certain your computer complies with the requirements, specifically the video card requirements.
2) Verify your system has the latest DirectX software. Included on the installation cd is a compatible DirectX installer. Open the DirectX folder on the CD and double-click on 'dxsetup.exe'. Follow the prompts to install.
3) Download and install the latest video drivers for your specific hardware.

> I get an error stating the game cannot open a file

Make certain you have administrator privileges to run the game. Game must be able to read and write to your hard drive to store save game data and other critical game data. This is absolutely critical for running the game.

> I have an old computer and my sound isn't working.

Nearly all audio issues we have encountered are simply fixed by downloading the most recent audio drivers for your hardware.

Realtek HD users

If no device appears in the mic input window on the options page, you will need to follow the procedure outlined below. Certain Realtek HD audio chipsets do not conform to certain Windows api standards. The best solution is to ask realtek to update their drivers to conform to standards recognized by Microsoft. However, we have modified our software in an attempt to let Realtek HD users play the game. With the Realtek HD audio chipset, the game will pick up every device that is playing, not just the microphone. To fix this, you will need to mute or lower the volume of each input/recording device with the exception of the microphone.

> Open the Windows control panel
> Double click the 'Sounds and Audio Devices' icon
> Open the 'Sound Recording' mixer window (Volume)
> Either mute or turn each device off by sliding volume level down
Slide the 'microphone' volume up to suit your taste (or whichever input your microphone is connected to on your computer)

GENERAL GAME INFORMATION

Instructions for the game can be located in 3 places. Here at this site, on the game install CD (readme.doc) as well as within the game. On the bottom right side of the main menu, you will see a 'Help' icon. Simply select this button and a help screen will appear. Please feel free to contact techsupport@cloud9games.com if you still have a question that is not answered here.

Heavenly Harmony Installation
If autorun is enabled, you should see an installer screen automatically appear on your screen. If not, open the cd drive directory and double-click on the setup.exe program. Follow the prompts to install.

Music expansion pack installation
Heavenly Harmony game must be installed first. If autorun is enabled, you should see an installer screen automatically appear on your screen. If not, open the cd drive directory and double-click on the setup.exe program. Follow the prompts to install. Once installed, start Heavenly Harmony as you normally do. You should now see the songs included in the expansion pack appear in the song selection screen when you choose 'perform song' from the main menu.

Player name
Each family member and friends can have their own player account to record their status and progress. From the main menu, select 'player info'. Type your name into the box on the lower left portion of the screen just under the 'create new player' button. Select 'create new player' button. The game will now track all your high scores for each song as well as your overall performance.

Mic install
Plug mic into mic jack on computer. On the actual hand-held mic, turn the mic switch on. Many people will find no adjustments are necessary.

If adjustments are necessary, perform the following from your Windows operating system.

> Start
> Control Panel
> Double click Sounds and Audio Device

From here you can make adjustments specific to your computers hardware. One option that most computers have is 'mic boost'. When selected, this will greatly enhance the pickup of the mic but will also likely pick up background noises that may not be desirable. We have found the ideal setting for your computer and environment is to turn the mic volume up/mic boost on as high as it will go without picking up background noise. For instance, if the orange pitch bar is jumping around without anyone singing into it, then the mic volume is probably too high since it is picking up background music. Another option we have incorporated into the game is a mic noise filter. You can find this setting on the 'Options' page in the game. Instead of turning the mic volume down to cut down background noise pickup, you can select a medium or high noise filter.

If the pitchbar is moving around excessively (picking up background noise). Try one or more of the following:

- Turn mic volume down in Windows Audio Control Panel (sound input tab)
- Increase Mic Noise Filter in Options page
- Turn mic boost off
- It always a good idea to mute all input devices except the microphone on computers with onboard audio. This will keep the microphone from picking up any internal noise from the computer itself. (see image below)

If the pitchbar is not glowing consistently when singing into mic (mic not picking up voice). Try one or more of the following:

- Sing louder (don't be shy!)
- Place mic closer to your mouth
- Turn mic boost on in Windows Audio Control Panel
- Raise mic input level in Windows Audio Control Panel

Hearing yourself through the PC speakers
The ability to hear your voice through your speakers is a function that is dependant on your specific computer. During testing, all desktops we tested allowed this functionality while none of the laptops did. So, if you are running this on a standard desktop computer (non-laptop) then the chances are that it will.

This must be done through the 'control panel' on your computer.

On your computer, go to ...

Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Volume > Advanced

Now look for an audio device that is named "mic through" or "input monitor" or something similar your specific computer manufacturer might have named it. Turn the volume up (making sure the device is not muted).

If you don't see anything like this, select OPTIONS while in the Volume Control Panel. Now select properties. You should see a window at the bottom that shows all your audio devices. Try and find "mic through" or "input monitor" or similar. Make sure it has a checkmark next to it, then go back and adjust the volume. Sounds difficult, but it's actually very easy. Because every computer is different, there is no way to automate this process.

Dressing Room
Select favorite clothing articles by pressing the red buttons. Press the red buttons multiple times for additional fabrics/patterns. Unlock more options by performing well in 'Perform Song' mode and in the Lessons.

Perform Song
Sing into the microphone as the selected Christian music plays in the background. When the lyrics reach the orange vertical bar, sing the words. The lyrics are placed on an actual music score. The correct note is also displayed to the right of the performance meter while the note you are actually singing is displayed to the left. Sing the corect note at the correct time and sparks will fly. Sing the correct note anytime during the note duration and the pitch meter will glow orange. Your progress is monitored by the performance meter which is centered just below the 3D window. As you hit notes, the meter rises but as you miss notes, the meter falls. See if you can get out of the shower!

Master Volume - Change the master volume by left-clicking and dragging the mouse up or down while positioned over the console knob. TIP! Since this does not change the mic input or output, you can balance your voice and the music, by moving this slider.
Vocal Mixer - To turn off the lead vocals, select the vocal mixer knob and drag down.
Console - Change the console style by left-clicking and dragging the mouse up or down while positioned over the console knob. One-click, drag. One-click, drag.
Note Overlay - Toggle on/off the actual music score note overlay.
Vibrato Comp - Compensate for vibrato singers. This allows the singer to have a little more variance with their pitch and scoring. It is still best if all singers try and sing a pure
voice since it's simply not possible at this time to detect if a vibrato that trembles between notes is purposeful or if the note sample is an error. Because there is more pitch variance allowed, the scoring for each 'correct' sample has also been lowered. Only choose this option if absolutely necessary.

Options
Display Player Pitch Hz - Displays the main frequency of the waveform (the 'note' being played or sung). It is expressed as a float in Hz. Default: OFF
Dynamic Processing - Improves pitch sampling. Default: ON
3D Display - Turns on/off the 3D display when performing song. This is useful for low-end computers/video cards that have slow frame rate. Default: ON
Note Overlay - Displays an overlay of notes on the score/lyric portion of the main display. Default: OFF
WeatherFX - Turn off if children are playing that might be frightened by storms/loud noises: Default: ON
Octave Matching - Without octave matching on, player must sing the exact pitch/octave as the game requires. Base octave of 4. Default: ON
Mic Noise Filter - Select low for the best mic pickup, high to reduce the amount of background noise. Default: LOW

Scoring
There are 3 base rates for scoring. Single rate is when the performance meter is in the "Shower", 2X when meter is in the "Choir" and 3X when the meter is "ON TOUR". The microphone input is sampled at a rate of 30X per second. You accumulate points for each correct sample (every moment you are on pitch) as well as additional points for singing lyrics on time.
